About Cofiwch Dryweryn
Back in 1965, the Welsh village of Tryweryn was flooded to create a reservoir for Liverpool. Wales didn't want it. The Welsh Assembly voted against it. Liverpool got it anyway. The village, its church, its history - all of it went under water. This wall went up in the 1960s as a furious reminder that Wales remembers, and it's been repainted countless times since by people who refuse to let anyone forget.
It's not a destination in the traditional sense. You don't need hours here - ten minutes, maybe twenty if you're reading the story or taking photos. But if you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby (Pengarreg or Morfa Farm are closest), it's worth the short detour. The walk up takes fifteen minutes from the roadside, and the views across Cardigan Bay are genuinely lovely.
Historically minded visitors will find it moving rather than uplifting. Kids might not get much from it unless they're old enough to understand protest and injustice. Walkers exploring the Ceredigion coast won't regret the diversion - it's a proper landmark and conversation starter.
It's free, open all hours, and unapologetically Welsh. That matters.
