Coed Gwarallt

The forest sits quietly above Llanybydder, a proper working woodland rather than a manicured tourist spot. Coed Gwarallt feels like the kind of place locals know about and visitors stumble upon by accident - which is precisely why it's worth the detour. Walking in here, you're surrounded by mature trees and a network of paths that wind through ancient woodland. The canopy closes overhead and suddenly you're away from it all, even though you're only minutes from the village.

It's ideal for walkers who want something genuine without the crowds of the bigger forest parks. The paths are manageable for families with older kids, though younger ones might find the uneven ground a bit much. Allow a good hour minimum if you actually want to explore rather than just grab a quick circuit. The woodland is densest in spring and summer when the green is thick and the light filters through in that particular way that makes you forget you're still in Wales.
