Coed Gaer

The walk up Coed Gaer takes you through proper woodland before the views open up across Conwy Valley. It's not a massive peak - you're looking at a straightforward scramble from Llandudno Junction side that most people knock out in under two hours. The tree cover is thick enough that you won't feel exposed, and the final stretch clears onto grassy slopes with decent views toward the Conwy estuary and back toward the higher peaks beyond.

This one appeals to families who want something solid without the slog of the bigger mountains nearby. Kids don't lose patience because the woodland keeps things interesting, and the top's rewarding enough without being knackering. Walkers doing a longer circuit through the valley will find it slots in nicely - it's not an isolated peak, so you can string together a decent day if you plan it right.

Timing-wise, give yourself a full morning or early afternoon if you're starting from one of the nearby glamping spots - Tan Y Bryn or Dinarth Hall are both close enough for a breakfast start. There's no admission to worry about, though parking might be tight during peak weekends. The best bet is heading up on a weekday or early morning when the car parks around Llandudno Junction aren't rammed.

The real appeal here is how accessible it is alongside everything else in the area. You're fifteen minutes from proper trails on Penmaenmawr, and the coast's close if the weather turns and you need a Plan B.
