Coed Gaer Hut Circle

Stone foundations mark where Bronze Age families once lived, their circular homes scattered across this windswept hillside above Llandudno Junction. What remains of Coed Gaer are low walls outlining roughly a dozen hut circles, each about six metres across - enough space for a hearth, sleeping area and precious few possessions.

Walking between these ancient outlines, you can almost picture daily life 3,000 years ago. The site sits on elevated ground with proper views across the Conwy valley, suggesting our ancestors knew a thing or two about choosing their spots. History enthusiasts will appreciate the authenticity - no visitor centre or interpretation boards, just raw archaeology in a working landscape.

Finding it requires a bit of detective work and sturdy boots. The circles are accessible year-round and cost nothing to visit, though getting there involves crossing farmland and following unclear paths. Allow an hour to explore properly, longer if you fancy contemplating our Bronze Age predecessors while taking in those valley views.

Families staying at nearby parks like Tan Y Bryn Glamping or Dinarth Hall might struggle with younger children - the terrain's uneven and there's not much to hold short attention spans.
