Coe River Waterfall

The walk to Coe River Waterfall from Ballachulish is short enough that you won't lose the kids halfway, but proper rewarding once you get there. The waterfall itself isn't massive - don't expect Niagara - but it's a genuine beauty, especially after rain when the water has some proper volume behind it. The river tumbles down through woodland that feels genuinely remote despite being minutes from the main road.

This is the kind of spot that works brilliantly for families with younger children or anyone who wants a decent outing without committing to a full day's hiking. The walk takes around 45 minutes return, depending on fitness and how long you linger. The ground can be boggy, so decent boots matter more than the distance suggests.

You'll want to time it right - late spring through early autumn is best, though the waterfall's most dramatic after heavy rain. Winter's possible but the path gets dodgy. It's free to visit, naturally, and there's rough parking nearby.

It pairs well with exploring Glen Coe proper, or combining it with Invercoe Caravan Park as a base for a wider Highland adventure. The Coe River itself is worth following further upstream if you've got time and energy.
