Cnocan Imheir

Getting up to Cnocan Imheir isn't a casual stroll - this is proper hill walking territory in Argyll. The peak sits above Tarbert, and on a clear day the views down the loch and across to Kintyre are genuinely worth the leg work. You're looking at decent elevation gain, so come prepared with decent boots and water.

The walk itself takes most of an afternoon depending on your fitness and which route you choose. There's no formal path to speak of, so navigation skills or a good map help. Summer months are obviously easier - winter here can be bleak and unforgiving. Once you're up, the sense of perspective is proper satisfying. Argyll reveals itself in layers below you.

This is walkers' territory, not a family-friendly picnic spot. You won't find facilities, shops, or even a car park at the base - it's the kind of place that appeals to people who actually enjoy the graft of getting somewhere. If you're staying at Port Ban Holiday Park nearby, it's close enough to slot into a walking weekend, though you'd combine it with other stuff in the area rather than making it a single destination.

Go in decent weather. Go with proper kit. If you've got reasonable fitness and like the feeling of having earned a view, Cnocan Imheir delivers. Otherwise, there are easier walks around Tarbert that'll give you Argyll without the slog.
