About Cnocan Dubh Hill Fort
The walk isn't brutal but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs. What makes it worthwhile is the isolation. Unlike some hillforts you'd find elsewhere in Scotland, this one doesn't come with tea rooms or interpretation boards. Just you, the wind, and the sense that people stood here 2,000 years ago defending what mattered to them.
It's not a draw on its own if you're visiting Ballachulish for a single afternoon, but it slots perfectly into a park-based holiday. Both Invercoe and Red Squirrel Campsite are close enough that you could do this in the morning, then spend afternoons exploring the Glen Coe area or along the loch itself. The campsite views are honestly often better than the fort itself, but if you're into archaeology and don't mind a bit of legwork, it's a genuinely good use of your time. Go when the weather's clear - the midges will still find you, but at least you'll see where you're going.
