Cnoc Fraing sits near Inverness, and the walk up takes roughly an hour depending on your pace and fitness. It's best suited to walkers with some reasonable fitness rather than families with young children. The path isn't always obvious, so bring a map or download the route beforehand. Midges can be absolutely brutal in summer, particularly June through August, so go in autumn or spring if you can.

Worth doing if you're staying at Dalraddy Holiday Park nearby - it's only five miles away, making it an easy half-day outing. Pair it with other Cairngorms walks in the area if you're spending longer in the region. The walk itself is free, obviously, but allow three hours door-to-door including breaks. On a clear day the panorama across the Highlands justifies the trudge up. On a grey one, you'll mainly see mist, so pick your weather. It's not Instagram-famous like Ben Nevis, which means fewer people and a genuinely quiet experience on the hill.
