Clunton Coppice

Dense woodland carpets the hillside just outside Craven Arms, where Clunton Coppice offers proper walking territory for those who prefer their countryside wild rather than manicured. This isn't a formal attraction with visitor centres and car park attendants - it's working woodland where you'll find proper muddy paths threading between oak, ash and birch.

Walkers who enjoy a bit of exploration will get the most from this spot. The paths aren't waymarked like a national trail, so bring an OS map and your sense of direction. Expect to spend a good hour or two if you're planning to really explore the deeper sections.

Families with young children might find it heavy going - the terrain can be rough underfoot and there are no facilities to speak of. But for teenagers who fancy themselves as adventurers, it's brilliant territory for den-building and general woodland exploration.
