Clogwyn Llech Lefn

The walk up Clogwyn Llech Lefn rewards you with one of those views that makes the leg burn worthwhile. It's a proper peak overlooking the Conwy Valley, and on a clear day you can see right across to Snowdonia - the kind of panorama that justifies the huff and puff getting there.

From Llanfairfechan, the ascent takes a couple of hours at a steady pace. The terrain is straightforward enough - moorland paths with some rockier sections near the summit - but it's relentless rather than technical. Bring decent boots and weather-appropriate kit; this is Wales, so assume it'll be damp. The peak itself is modest but the vantage point is excellent for valley photography or simply standing about with a thermos.

This works best for hill walkers rather than casual strollers, and older children who don't mind a proper trek will enjoy it. The route doesn't require scrambling skills, which counts in its favour, but it's not a gentle afternoon wander either. Allow three to four hours for the round trip depending on how long you dawdle at the top.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Maenan Abbey and Ogwen Bank are both within five miles - it slots in nicely as a half-day outing. The valley location means you're well-positioned for exploring the wider Conwy hills without the Snowdonia crowds. Weather dependent, absolutely, but the effort pays dividends.
