Church Hill

The view from Church Hill, just outside Redhill, justifies the modest climb. On a clear day you're looking south towards the Weald - proper open countryside with barely a building in sight. It's not a dramatic peak by any means, but that's rather the point. This is Surrey hills territory: gentle, accessible, and rewarding without demanding serious fitness.

You'll find a small church at the top (St Mary's), which gives the place its name. Most people take twenty to thirty minutes from the car park to reach the summit. The path is straightforward and well-trodden. Families with primary-school kids will manage it without complaint. The views alone make it worth doing, especially on weekends when the light sits nicely across the valley.

It works brilliantly as a morning outing if you're staying at Alderstead Heath Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite nearby - barely a mile away - or one of the other parks scattered around the Surrey Hills. You could combine it with walking further into the Weald or heading down to Redhill for lunch. Free to visit, naturally. No facilities at the top, so bring a flask if you plan to sit for a bit.

Not dramatic, but genuinely lovely. The sort of place locals know well and visitors overlook. Go on a weekday if you want it quiet, which you probably will.
