Chorley Golf Club

Chorley Golf Club sits just outside Leyland, a proper 18-hole course that's been going since 1897. The layout winds through decent enough terrain - nothing dramatic, but it's well-maintained and walks reasonably for golfers of all abilities.

This is squarely for golfers. Non-players won't find much to do here, though the clubhouse is decent if you're after a quiet drink and a view of the fairways. Green fees aren't cheap, but the course gets busy at weekends, so book ahead if you know what you're doing. Expect to spend a good four hours minimum if you're playing the full round.

If you're staying at Royal Umpire Caravan Park down the road - and it's only about six miles away - Chorley gives you a solid way to fill a day without driving too far. The course plays well year-round, though winter can get a bit waterlogged. Summer's your best bet if the weather plays ball.

It's a proper members' club with visitors welcome, but ring ahead to check availability. The course itself is honest golf rather than spectacular - nice enough to enjoy, but it's not one of those showstopper layouts that'll stay with you. That said, if you're a keen golfer looking for a straightforward round whilst caravanning in Lancashire, it does the job perfectly well.
