Chirk Green Hill

The walk up Chirk Green Hill rewards you with proper countryside views across the border into Wales. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like the stuff further north - but on a clear day you can see why people bother making the climb from Wrexham's edges.

The hill itself is manageable. Most walkers knock it out in under an hour, though you'll want to linger at the top if the weather's cooperating. The views spread out nicely across the Dee Valley, and if you catch it right, the light does something proper magic in late afternoon.

It's a solid choice for families who aren't looking for Alpine-scale drama. Kids won't get battered by the ascent, and there's space to run around at the summit without worrying about sheer drops. Walkers from Foxtail Holiday Park - about 1.4 miles away - could easily make this part of a longer loop through the area without much hassle.

Head up in autumn or early spring when the crowds thin out and the light sits lower. Summer can feel a bit sluggish on the path. Free to visit, naturally. Bring a decent map though - the route's not complicated, but signage is a bit thin on the ground.

Worth the detour? If you're in the Wrexham area and fancy a quick walk with views, yes. Don't expect solitude or dramatic vistas, but the hill does exactly what it says on the tin.
