Charlbury Hill

The walk up Charlbury Hill takes you through proper Oxfordshire countryside, and the views from the top make the climb worthwhile. You're looking out across rolling fields and woodland that stretch further than you'd expect in this part of England - on a clear day, the vista opens right up.

It's a straightforward ascent, nothing too technical, so families with older kids handle it fine. The path itself is well-trodden, though it can get muddy after rain. Allow about an hour there and back from the nearest access point, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the summit. There's no café up top, so bring what you need.

Walkers will get more from it than casual strollers. The panorama is genuinely striking, and if you time it right for late afternoon, the light across the landscape is rather good. History buffs might find it less engaging - there's no particular heritage angle here, just land and views.

Botswicky Copse is the nearest settlement, close enough for a base. The two glamping sites in the area - Nordic Glamping at Botswicky, just 1.4 miles away, and Evelyns Garden Glamping a bit further out - both offer proper creature comforts if you want to combine hill walking with nicer accommodation. Worth timing your visit for decent weather rather than battling through drizzle. The hill itself costs nothing to climb.
