Chapel Mere

Chapel Mere sits just outside Whitchurch in Cheshire, a proper little lake that catches most visitors by surprise. You can walk the perimeter in under an hour, which makes it ideal if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Bradley Hall or Little Ranch and fancy a gentle leg-stretch. The paths are flat and easy enough for families with young kids, though there's not much to keep older children entertained beyond spotting waterfowl. Bird watchers will find it worth lingering for - it attracts decent numbers of migratory species depending on the season.

Admission appears free, and there's no formal visitor infrastructure, which means no cafés or facilities to speak of. Go early morning when it's quiet, or late afternoon when the light's soft on the water. Winter's actually lovely here; the reeds take on amber tones and you'll likely have the place to yourself.

It's not a destination in its own right - more a pleasant half-hour detour if you're exploring the quieter corners of Cheshire between Whitchurch and the mid-Wales border. Pair it with walking in the wider countryside rather than expecting Chapel Mere alone to justify the drive.
