Cefn Sidan

Seven miles of golden sand stretch ahead of you, making this one of the longest beaches in Wales. Cefn Sidan runs along Carmarthen Bay from Kidwelly down towards Burry Port, and at low tide it feels endless. The sand is firm enough for proper beach games and long walks, though the Carmarthenshire coast can be bracing even in summer.

Families with young children will love the space here - there's room for everyone to spread out without feeling cramped. Dog walkers get a proper workout too, as you can easily cover miles without realising it. The beach backs onto Pembrey Forest, so you can combine sand and woodland walks if the mood takes you.

Timing matters with Cefn Sidan. High tide swallows up much of that lovely expanse, leaving you with a narrow strip that's frankly not worth the journey. Check the tide tables before heading out from your holiday base. The beach is free, naturally, and there's decent parking near Pembrey Country Park if you're staying at one of the nearby sites like Parkdean's Carmarthen Bay or the Caravan Club spot.

Expect a proper Welsh beach experience - dramatic skies, fresh air that'll wake you up, and sand that goes on forever when conditions are right. Just don't expect Mediterranean warmth, even in July.
