The grounds connect to Cawdor Castle's estate, so you get a sense of how the landscape has been managed historically - that's the thing that makes it worth the detour from Nairn rather than just another wood walk.

Family groups with under-tens might find it a bit underwhelming if they're after a proper playscape, but older kids who like scrambling through trees will rate it. There's something about the density of growth that appeals to anyone who remembers hiding in forests as a child. Wildlife spotting is genuinely decent here - red squirrels, various woodland birds, occasional roe deer if you're lucky enough.
