Families with older kids will love the kayaking sessions, though don't expect toddlers to cope with the Welsh waters. The coasteering looks properly thrilling if you fancy scrambling over rocks and jumping into the sea, but it's definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Booking ahead seems essential, especially in summer when the grey seals are most active. The instructors know exactly where to find the wildlife - we spotted harbour porpoises within twenty minutes of launching. Worth noting that conditions can change quickly here, so they're quite strict about weather cancellations.

Haven Quay West and Ocean Heights are both within easy walking distance of the harbour, while families staying at The Village Holiday Park can easily drive down for morning sessions. After a few hours on the water, New Quay's cafés and that famous honey ice cream make the perfect recovery stop.
