Carbeth Hill

The walk up Carbeth Hill takes you out of Glasgow's orbit and into proper Lowlands terrain - nothing dramatic, but oddly satisfying for a couple of hours if you're based nearby. It's a modest peak that sits between the city sprawl and the wilder ground further north, which makes it handy for breaking up a park stay without needing a full day's commitment.

You get decent views across the Clyde Valley from the top, assuming the weather plays ball. On a clear day you can see beyond Glasgow towards the southern hills. The hill itself is approachable rather than punishing - steep in patches but nothing that demands proper kit or experience. Most people will take 45 minutes to an hour to reach the summit, depending on fitness and how much you dawdle.

It works best for walkers who don't want to drive far from Glasgow or who are staying at The WHW Hotel & Campsite just down the road. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the climb tedious. History buffs won't find much up here - this is about the walk and the views, not heritage.

The whole outing, including a proper poke around the top, takes a couple of hours. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the summit, so bring water.
