Caradoc Coppice

Walkers will find the most here. The trails aren't marked with the sort of corporate signage you get at managed attractions, so bring a map and come prepared. It's free to wander, which is honest work for what amounts to a genuine bit of Shropshire woodland. You're looking at an hour or two depending on how many side paths you fancy exploring. Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after that - there's no visitor centre, no play equipment, no gift shop nonsense. Just trees and earth and the occasional bird.

If you're bunking at Alderwood Glamping just 1.5 miles away, this is your walking escape. It pairs well with a week exploring the wider Long Mynd area. Spring Field Dark Skies Eco Camp, a touch further at 6.2 miles, makes Caradoc a good morning walk before settling down for an evening of actual stars. Go on a weekday if you can - weekend foot traffic isn't heavy, but you'll have the place even more to yourself.
