Camborne Elim Church

The Elim Church in Camborne sits quietly on its own stretch of street, a proper working place of worship rather than a tourist draw. It's a sturdy Methodist-looking building with that solid, no-nonsense feel you find in Cornish mining towns. Inside, if you manage to catch it open, there's simple, honest architecture - the kind of space where you can actually hear yourself think, which is rare enough these days.

This isn't a destination in itself. Nobody drives to Cornwall specifically to tick off the Elim Church. But if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Lanyon is just over two miles away, Higher Trevaskis a bit further - and you're taking a wander round Camborne itself (which sits between Redruth and the coast), you might stumble past it. The town has a proper mining heritage, and the church fits into that story, though you'll learn more from the town's museums and walking routes than from the building alone.

It's worth knowing about if you're curious about Cornish Methodism or local architecture, but don't bank your holiday on it. Spring or summer are obviously better for poking around unfamiliar towns, and you'll want to check if the door's actually unlocked. Give it ten minutes maximum unless you're genuinely interested in church interiors. Most people heading this way are after the beaches or bigger draws - which fair enough.
