Caley Crags

The walk up to Caley Crags takes you through proper moorland north of Otley, and the payoff is a decent vantage point across the Wharfe Valley. It's not a dramatic peak - more a rocky outcrop where the landscape suddenly opens up beneath you. On a clear day you can see right across to Ilkley Moor and beyond. The crags themselves are modest, but they're worth the climb if you're in the area.

Most people doing this are walkers already plotting a route through the Chevin Forest area. It works well as part of a longer afternoon trek rather than a destination in itself. The actual viewpoint takes maybe five minutes to look around properly, though the approach from Otley is roughly 40 minutes on foot depending on your pace and which path you take. There's no facilities up there - just rocks, views, and the wind.

If you're staying at Fairmead Farm Glamping nearby, this makes sense as a morning outing before doing something else in the valley. Kids will find it a decent objective for a walk, though they might lose interest once they realise there's not much to do except look out and take a photo. For serious walkers it's really just one waypoint among several across the moorland. Go when the weather's decent - there's no shelter, and mist rolls in quickly.
