The woodland works best for walkers who want something low-key. History types won't find much to grip them here - this is nature rather than heritage - but families with kids who'll keep entertained spotting wildlife and scrambling over fallen logs will get decent value from an hour or so. The space is manageable enough that you won't feel lost but generous enough that it doesn't feel cramped.

If you're based at Castle Farm Campsite or Ferry Meadows just down the road, Caldecote makes a solid morning walk before you head into Peterborough proper. You're looking at maybe ninety minutes round trip depending on how thorough you want to be. There's no visitor centre or cafe, so bring water. The woodland's free to access - no gates, no fees, just turn up.

Go when it's been dry if you can. Muddy paths are part of woodland life, but there's a difference between atmospheric damp and proper quagmire. Early morning gets you the best light and the fewest other walkers.
