Cae Caradog

The walk up Cae Caradog isn't going to take your breath away with its height - it's only 577 metres - but it will take your breath away with the sheer reach of the views once you're up there. On a clear day you can see all the way across the Cambrian Mountains, and that matters more than climbing another few hundred metres for bragging rights.

From Tregaron, it's a straightforward pull up through moorland. The path is well-trodden and the gradient's manageable, which means you won't spend the whole way swearing at yourself. Allow a good hour up, maybe forty minutes down if you're not fussing about your knees. It's the kind of walk where families with older kids will manage fine, and solo hikers will appreciate the space to think.

Worth doing? Yes, especially if you're basing yourself at one of the camping spots nearby. Cambrian Mountains Glamping and Camping, just over five miles away, would set you up nicely for tackling this and the broader moorland walks in the area. Lampeter Caravan & Camping is also close by, though its reviews are patchy.

The real strength here is how accessible it feels - no scrambling, no exposed bits, just you and the Ceredigion landscape doing what it does best. Go in decent weather and you'll understand why people keep coming back to this corner of Wales. Mist rolls in fast though, so start early and don't mess about timing it.
