Allt Tan-caebanal

The forest track at Allt Tan-caebanal cuts through dense woodland in a way that feels properly remote, even though you're only a few miles from Tregaron. It's the sort of place where the canopy closes overhead and you forget there's a road anywhere nearby. The walk itself is straightforward - a forest path that doesn't demand much in the way of fitness, though it does get a bit muddy after rain, so come prepared.

What makes it worth the trip is the sense of being properly in the Welsh uplands. The trees are thick enough that it feels wild, but there's a clear path so you won't spend the afternoon lost. You'll see the sort of woodland that covers much of the Cambrian Mountains - oak and birch mostly, with plenty of moss and ferns. On a decent day the light filters through nicely. Bring waterproofs though; this part of Ceredigion gets its share of weather.

It works well as a half-hour or hour-long diversion if you're staying at Cambrian Mountains Glamping and Camping or FfosHelyg Caravan Park nearby. It's the kind of woodland walk that appeals to families who want something less structured than a marked trail, and to walkers wanting a quiet break in the landscape. Hikers doing longer routes through the mountains will appreciate it as part of a bigger day out. The forest itself is free to access, though it's worth checking locally in Tregaron if there are any seasonal closures or notices. It's not spectacular in the way a waterfall or mountain viewpoint is - this is about atmosphere rather than views.
