Walkers get the most from Bushy Copse. There's no visitor centre or marked trails in the traditional sense, so come expecting to navigate by instinct and a decent map. The forest floor changes completely depending on season - summer is soft underfoot but claustrophobic; autumn transforms it into something special with the canopy turning. Families with restless toddlers might find it a bit underwhelming after half an hour, but teenagers who like a bit of genuine wilderness without the Instagram crowds will appreciate it.

Peterfield's only a few miles away, which makes this useful for breaking up a park holiday. Feather Down Manor Farm is just 3.2 miles south - stay there and you've got proper woodland on your doorstep rather than manicured grounds. Adhurst Yurts, rated 5.0, sits slightly further but offers something different if glamping appeals. The forest works best as a morning walk before heading to one of these bases for the afternoon. Access appears to be free, and there's no real time limit - though two hours tends to be the sweet spot before you've seen enough and want to explore somewhere else in the area.
