Burst Hill

The highest point in East Yorkshire doesn't exactly take your breath away - you'll manage that just fine walking up it. Burst Hill rises to a modest 128 metres near Hull, which tells you everything about the Yorkshirе landscape round here. Flat, agricultural, utterly unpretentious. The appeal, frankly, is the walk itself and the views across the vale rather than any dramatic summit moment. You get proper countryside vistas from up there, the kind that remind you why the East Riding isn't all industrial grit and sprawl.

It's a solid afternoon outing for walkers who don't need drama or a café at the top to feel they've accomplished something. Families with younger kids might lose interest after the climb, but anyone after a genuine taste of rural Yorkshire will find it worthwhile. The surrounding area - farmland, woodland, low rolling hills - makes for decent rambling once you're in the rhythm of it.

Nearest town is Hull, which gives you options for base-camping. Several holiday parks sit within easy reach: Cowden, Sea View Country Park, and Burton Constable are all under five miles away, making Burst Hill a logical waypoint on a broader park holiday exploring the region. There's no admission fee or formal facilities, so go when the weather looks decent and you've got good boots on. Allow a couple of hours maximum including the walk and a breather at the top. Not spectacular, but proper honest Yorkshire countryside.
