The walk up Bryniau Glo takes you straight into proper hill country - nothing fancy, just a steady climb that rewards you with views across Gwynedd that make the leg work worthwhile. It's a modest peak by Welsh standards, but that's partly the appeal. You won't queue here like you might on Cader Idris, and the scramble itself is manageable for anyone with reasonable fitness.

From Dolgellau - a handsome market town about a short drive away - the approach is straightforward. Allow two to three hours for the round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. The views stretch across the Mawddach Estuary and into serious mountain terrain. On a clear day it's genuinely cracking; on a grey one, you'll still have the satisfaction of getting above the cloud layer.

Walkers and hill enthusiasts will get proper value here. It's not a scramble for the fearless, nor a stroll for the idle - just honest Welsh hillwalking. Families with older kids will manage fine. Toddlers won't enjoy the push, though.
