Bryn-Towy

The walk up Bryn-Towy rewards you with proper views across the Towy Valley and beyond - on a clear day you can see right across Carmarthenshire's rolling countryside. It's not a massive peak by any stretch, but that's rather the point. The climb is manageable enough for families with older kids, though the path gets muddy and slippery after rain, so decent boots are essential.

Allow a couple of hours if you're taking your time and actually stopping to look around rather than bagging it for the Strava stats. The real appeal here is the walk itself, not a dramatic summit moment - you'll pass through farmland and moorland, and the sense of space is genuinely lovely. On weekdays you'll likely have the place to yourself, which makes a nice change from the busier peaks.

Carmarthen sits just down the valley, so it's an easy base for combining this with other walks in the area. If you're already staying at one of the nearby farms - Coedhirion or Lan Farm Glamping are both within 20 minutes' drive - then Bryn-Towy makes a solid morning outing before you head elsewhere. It's free to walk, obviously, and there's parking near the trailhead though it's tight.

Worth doing? If you're in the area anyway and fancy a straightforward walk with decent views, yes. Don't make a special trip from beyond Carmarthen for it. History buffs won't find much here - this is pure countryside rambling.
