Bryn Glas

The walk up Bryn Glas is a proper little scramble, nothing too technical but enough to keep you engaged without being knackered by the time you reach the top. It's not far from Betws-y-Coed, which makes it ideal if you're already exploring that corner of Snowdonia. The views across the Conwy Valley are the real draw here - on a clear day you can see right across to the surrounding peaks, and the whole landscape just opens up in front of you. It's the sort of walk that takes a couple of hours at most, so perfectly doable even if you've only got a half-day free.

Families with older kids will manage this fine; it's not a casual stroll but it won't require crampons or anything daft. Younger children might find it a bit much, and there's nothing at the summit itself beyond the views and a few rocks to sit on. Walkers who like a bit of scrambling rather than just grinding up a hill will rate it more than casual park strollers. Bring proper boots because the ground gets boggy and loose in places, especially after rain.

If you're staying at Llechwedd Glamping or Porth Eryri, both within six miles, this pairs well with exploring the wider area - Betws-y-Coed itself has decent cafes and shops to recover in afterwards. Start early in the day to catch the light at its best and to avoid the afternoon cloud that tends to roll in. It's free to walk, obviously, and you won't need to book anything in advance.
