Broadway Hill

The walk up Broadway Hill takes about twenty minutes from the village itself, and on a clear day you're rewarded with views across the Cotswolds that stretch for miles. It's not a challenging climb - the path is well-trodden and manageable for families, though the final push does get a bit steep. The tower at the summit, a Victorian folly built in 1799, stands 65 feet tall and dominates the skyline. You can see it from Broadway high street before you even start walking.

What makes it worth doing is the perspective it gives you on the Cotswold landscape. From up there, the villages and rolling fields make proper sense - you can pick out Chipping Campden to the north and catch sight of the Malverns on a decent day. The tower itself is closed to the public, but that doesn't matter much. Most people spend twenty minutes at the top, take photos, maybe have a snack, then head back down.

Historically minded visitors might find the folly itself interesting - it was commissioned by a local Thomas Bouchier and stands as a rather grand statement of Victorian wealth. For walkers, this works brilliantly as a short excursion from Broadway village. If you're camping at Broadway Caravan and Motorhome Club or nearby at Leedons, it's an easy morning's outing. Young children might manage the walk but could get restless at the summit - there's nothing to do up there except look about.

Go midweek in autumn if you can. Weekends bring coach loads to Broadway village, and the car park fills quickly.
