Bridlington, Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity dominates Bridlington's seafront with a sheer bulk that stops you mid-stride. This is proper medieval architecture - all soaring perpendicular Gothic and enough stonework to make you wonder how they got it all up before pneumatic drills. The church dates back to the 12th century, though much of what you see now is Victorian restoration work done with genuine care rather than the ham-fisted stuff you find elsewhere.

Inside, the nave is vast and pale, with enough height to make you crane your neck like you're checking for leaks. There's decent stained glass, some fine monuments, and the whole thing feels lived-in rather than museum-like - folk actually worship here, which gives it an honest quality. The chancel work is particularly worth a moment of your time if you can get close enough.

It's genuinely free to wander in during opening hours, and you won't need more than thirty to forty minutes unless you're the sort who reads every memorial stone. Families won't find it riveting for young kids, but anyone who enjoys church architecture or a bit of local history will get something from it. The location works well if you're staying at South Shore Holiday Park just up the road - it's barely five minutes' walk - or any of the other parks dotted round Bridlington. The town itself has plenty going on, so you can combine a quick church visit with an actual seaside day out rather than treating it as the main event.
