Bredon Hill

Standing at 961 feet, this limestone outlier offers some of the finest views across the Vale of Evesham and beyond to the Malvern Hills. The walk to the summit from Pershore takes about an hour each way, though you can drive partway up and shorten the trek considerably.

Families with older children will love the challenge - the final approach is properly steep but manageable for anyone reasonably fit. The reward at the top is an Iron Age hill fort and that magnificent 360-degree panorama. On clear days you can spot the Welsh mountains in the distance.

A.E. Housman made this hill famous in his poem about the Worcestershire beacon, and there's a memorial stone near the summit. History enthusiasts will appreciate the ancient earthworks, though honestly the views are the main draw.

Bring a picnic - there's plenty of space at the top and benches dotted about. Early morning or late afternoon visits offer the best light for photos and fewer crowds. The hill is always accessible as it's common land, though parking can be tricky on busy weekends.

Perfect for breaking up a holiday at nearby Bredon View Holiday Park or Croft Farm Water Park. Allow half a day if you're taking your time, though keen walkers could easily combine it with exploring the surrounding countryside.
