Brandon Walls lead mine and ore works

The ruins of Brandon Walls are properly atmospheric - a lead mine and ore works that sits quietly in the Durham countryside just outside Bishop Auckland, waiting for anyone curious enough to seek it out. You're walking among industrial archaeology here, the sort of place where you can actually touch the past rather than read about it behind glass.

What you'll find are the remains of the mine workings and processing areas, scattered across the site in various states of decay. The stone structures tell the story of lead extraction that once mattered enormously to this region. It's not a manicured attraction with interpretation boards at every turn - this is raw, unpolished history that rewards a bit of poking about and imagination.
