Boxhill Viewpoint

The view from Box Hill stops you dead. On a clear day, you're looking across the Weald towards the South Downs - proper rolling countryside that reminds you why the Surrey Hills got their National Landscape designation. It's not particularly high at 563 metres, but the vantage point does exactly what it says on the tin.

You can drive up or walk it. Most people drive to the car park near Tadworth and then it's a short climb to the viewpoint itself. The path gets busy on weekends, especially with families and school groups, so go midweek if you want to actually stand still for five minutes. The view's genuinely worth an hour of your time - bring binoculars if you're into spotting landmarks across the Weald.

It's free and open access, which is rare for somewhere this good. There's a café at the base if you want tea before or after, though don't expect fancy. The whole thing fits brilliantly into a park holiday round here. Betchworth Fort Park, Merrywood, and Surrey Hills Park are all within walking distance, and if you're camping at Norbury Park just up the road, Box Hill becomes your morning stroll with a proper payoff. Kids will find the walk a bit of a slog but the view itself keeps them interested for a bit. Walkers doing the North Downs Way pass through anyway, so it works as a natural stopping point rather than a special trip on its own.
