Bourne Leisure Centre

A proper community sports hub just outside Emsworth, Bourne Leisure Centre serves up the usual facilities you'd expect - pools, gyms, courts - without any pretension whatsoever. It's the sort of place locals actually use rather than somewhere you'd travel miles out of your way for, but if you're camped at The Old Dairy Farm Glamping or any of the sites dotted around Hayling Island, it's genuinely useful for breaking up a rainy afternoon or working off energy before dinner.

The pools are the main draw if you've got kids in tow. Nothing fancy, but functional and clean. The gym equipment is decent enough if you're the type who can't stomach a week away from weights. They've got courts for badminton and the like too. Swimming a few lengths beats sitting in a tent during a downpour, and children tend to empty their batteries properly here rather than whinging about boredom.

Walkers and outdoor types will find it less essential - you're better off exploring the coastal paths around Emsworth itself - but if you're staying at Mill Rythe or Hayling Island Holiday Park and want an indoor option, it fills a gap. Family groups with younger children get the most from it. Older kids might find it a touch mundane after an hour or so.

Check opening hours and admission costs before you go - these do fluctuate - and ring ahead if you're planning to use specific facilities. It's positioned well for park holidays in the area, though hardly a destination in itself.
