The museum leans heavily on volunteers and donations, so it has that authentically scrappy feel rather than a polished corporate vibe. You might catch restoration work in progress, which adds something real to the experience.

Cambridge is barely fifteen minutes away, so it slots nicely between other sightseeing in town. If you're staying at one of the glamping sites or caravan parks nearby - Lodeside or Fen Meadows are genuinely close - this breaks up a park-based holiday without eating a full day. History buffs and people who still get excited about Merlin engines will rate it highly. Families with young children who don't yet have the patience for museums might find it a bit limited - it's standing around looking rather than interactive. Worth the detour if planes are your thing, but don't expect it to replace a day trip to the Imperial War Museum.
