Boot Cave

Boot Cave sits just outside Conwy, a modest sea cave that's more interesting for its story than its size. You're looking at a modest cavity in the cliff face - not some vast underground cathedral - but it's got genuine character. The cave gets its name from a piece of footwear supposedly left behind by a giant, though honestly the geology is far more compelling than the folklore.

The walk there is the real draw. It's a proper coastal ramble from Conwy town itself, taking you past the castle and along the foreshore with decent views across the estuary. Allow a couple of hours if you're ambling, less if you're just after a quick explore. Families with primary-age kids will find it a decent bit of novelty - there's something about a cave entrance that captures their imagination - though teenagers might find it a bit underwhelming unless they're into the local legends.

It's free to access and there's no formal visitor centre, which keeps things refreshingly straightforward. Go at low tide if you want to get proper access; high tide makes it trickier and less rewarding. The nearby Golden Sands Holiday Park makes this a logical afternoon outing if you're based in the area for a longer stay - it's close enough for a half-day venture without being so famous it's rammed with coachloads.

Worth combining with a proper wander around Conwy itself rather than treating as a standalone trip.
