Boddinglee Law

The walk up Boddinglee Law takes about forty minutes from the car park near Biggar, and it's one of those climbs that doesn't feel particularly steep until you're halfway up and realise you're genuinely puffed. The summit sits at just over 500 metres, which means the views across South Lanarkshire properly open up - you can see for miles on a clear day, rolling moorland stretching towards the Pentlands. On misty afternoons it's moody and atmospheric; on sunny ones it's genuinely stunning.

This is a walker's hill rather than a tourist attraction in the traditional sense. There are no facilities, no café, nothing at the top but grass and wind. That's precisely why it works. You'll mostly encounter locals out for their regular loop, maybe some hikers cutting through on longer routes. Families with decent-aged kids will get something from it - the sense of actual achievement that a modest Lowland peak provides. Small children might find the walk tedious without decent motivation (a packed lunch eaten at the top helps).

The nearest proper base is Mount View Caravan Park, about five miles away near Biggar, which gives you a solid platform for exploring the area. Boddinglee Law fits well into a broader walking holiday - it's short enough to do in a morning, leaving afternoons free for other pursuits. Bring proper boots; the path gets boggy after rain and there's nothing worse than squelching back down with wet feet.
