Boconnoc Church

The church sits alone in the Cornish countryside between Lerryn and Par, a proper medieval structure that stops you in your tracks when you round the corner. Boconnoc Church has that quiet gravity you find in old parish churches - nothing flashy, just stone and centuries stacked on top of each other.

Inside, there's decent medieval work if you're into that sort of thing: carved benches, a font that's seen countless christenings, and the kind of light through old windows that makes you understand why people bothered building these places at all. The churchyard itself is atmospheric without being moody - gravestones tilting gently into the long grass, mature trees offering shade.

This isn't a destination in itself, frankly. Twenty minutes if you're thorough, maybe half an hour if you're the sort who reads every inscription. But if you're staying at Eden Valley Holiday Park or The Camping Field, it's a cracking little walk - the kind that gets you out of the holiday park and reminds you why you came to Cornwall rather than Benidorm.

The nearest town is Lerryn, a proper village with a few cafes if you want to make an afternoon of it. The church is free to visit, no set hours that I can establish, which means you can roll up when it suits you. Worth the detour if you're already exploring the area, but don't reorganize your itinerary around it. Couples and history types will get more from it than families with young children.
