The Blue Planet Aquarium sits right on Chester's doorstep, making it a proper lifesaver on a wet afternoon if you're camped at Chester Fairoaks or Oakwood Farm. You're walking through tanks full of sharks, rays, and all manner of fish - the sort of place where kids press their noses against the glass for hours and don't complain once.

It's an indoor attraction, which means rain won't ruin your plans. The layout's straightforward enough - you move through different zones, each one themed around a different marine environment. The shark tank is the main draw, understandably, though the tropical sections have their moments too. Most visitors spend between two and three hours here without rushing.

Admission isn't free, but it's reasonable for a full day in an air-conditioned space. Families with younger children will get the most mileage out of it - teenagers might find it a bit samey after an hour. The gift shop is inevitably overpriced, but that's the aquarium business for you.

If you're basing yourself at any of the parks within a few miles of Chester, this works nicely as a backup plan rather than a headline attraction. Pair it with a walk around Chester's walls or the river, and you've got a solid day. On balance, it's worth an afternoon if you've got the time and the weather's against you, but don't overstate it - you're not rearranging your entire holiday around an aquarium.
