Blue Bull

The Blue Bull stands guard at RAF Marham's gates, a massive sculpture that's become rather iconic in these parts. It's a public art installation you can see from the road without needing to actually enter the air base - which is just as well, given the security situation. The piece itself is striking: a bold, angular bull in blue that catches the light differently depending on the time of day. Worth a quick stop if you're driving between King's Lynn and the deeper Norfolk countryside, particularly if you've got an interest in modern public sculpture or RAF heritage.

The sculpture appeals mainly to photography enthusiasts and art lovers passing through rather than being a destination in its own right. You won't need more than ten minutes here - it's very much a pull-over-and-snap-a-photo sort of place. There's something oddly satisfying about spotting it from the road though, and it makes a good talking point if you're with children who like spotting landmarks.
