Bletchingley Golf Course

An 18-hole course just south of Redhill that's been going since 1906, Bletchingley is the sort of place where you'll see proper golfers working on their swing rather than stag dos in fancy dress. The layout is genuinely interesting - nothing too dramatic, but the routing feels thought through, with enough variation to keep your attention over the round. The greens are reasonable and it's relatively forgiving for mid-handicappers, which means you won't spend the day fishing balls out of the rough in despair.

This one's for golfers, plainly. If your group includes non-players, there's a clubhouse with decent views across the Surrey countryside, though it's not somewhere to linger for hours if golf doesn't do it for you. You're looking at four hours for a relaxed round, three if you're sharp about it.

It works well as part of a caravan park stay in the area - Long Acres sits about six miles out, and Glamping at Long Acres adds a nicer option if you want something with a bit more polish. After eighteen holes, you could easily head back for an evening drink and dinner without much faffing about. Membership-only courses can be harder to access as a visitor, so worth ringing ahead to check if you can get a game. The club has history on its side and takes itself seriously, which some appreciate and others find a bit stuffy. It's a proper clubhouse course rather than a wide-open municipal layout, so expectations matter.
