Black Rhadley

Black Rhadley sits in that wild stretch of Powys countryside where the hills start getting properly serious. It's a stone monument - the sort of thing you stumble across on a walk and think, right, what's this then? The landscape around it is what sells it. Rolling moorland, few trees, proper windswept. You get the sense that whoever built this knew what they were doing with placement.

Historically minded types will spend twenty minutes, maybe half an hour, poking around and wondering about its origins. Everyone else? It's a five-minute stop on a longer walk through the area. The nearest proper base is Shrewsbury, which is close enough for a day trip out here, but you'd do better staying at one of the parks dotted round - Bow House Country Park or Sunrise Pods are both within a few miles and give you easy access to this sort of exploring.

There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of, so come prepared for weather. It's free, obviously. The real draw isn't the monument itself - it's the walk to get there and what the countryside teaches you about why mid-Wales gets under people's skin. If you're breaking up a caravan holiday with some proper walking, this scratches that itch without needing a big commitment. Just don't expect facilities or crowds. You're out here on your own terms.
