Black Creich Hill

The walk up Black Creich Hill takes you straight into proper Perthshire countryside, just a few miles north of Perth itself. It's not a dramatic peak - more of a gentle ridge with decent views across the Tay valley and towards the Southern Highlands beyond. The hill rises to around 1,000 feet, so it's manageable for most fitness levels without being a trudge.

What you're really getting here is a proper countryside experience rather than a destination attraction in itself. The route passes through farmland and woodland, with the local landscape changing subtly as you climb. On a clear day the outlook justifies the walk, though I'll be honest - you won't be wrestling with crowds at the summit.

Families with older kids will find it worthwhile. Younger ones might lose interest before the top unless they're keen walkers already. It works brilliantly as a half-morning outing if you're based at one of the local glamping spots like Greenhill Farm or the cabins at Fossoway - both within spitting distance - and gives you reason to properly explore the area rather than just passing through. Allow a couple of hours for the whole thing, depending on pace and how long you linger at the top.

Go in autumn or late spring. Summer can be muggy, and winter's often too wet to be fun. The walk's free, naturally - just park sensibly and respect the farmland either side of the path.
