If you're based at Royal Umpire Caravan Park nearby, Big Lodge makes for an easy walk or short drive when you want to get out but aren't up for tackling the bigger attractions. It pairs well with exploring Leyland itself, which has enough high street shops and local pubs to fill an afternoon. The parking situation appears straightforward, though I'd arrive early if weekends are your only option.

Worth the detour? Only if you're already in the area. Don't make a special trip from further afield. But as a low-key break from caravan life, it does the job. Bring binoculars if you're into that sort of thing - there's proper wildlife if you know where to look.
