Beverley Beck

The beck itself is really just a narrow waterway running through Beverley, but it's where the town shows its best side. You've got this lovely stretch of water lined with willows and old buildings leaning in as if they're having a chat across the water. It's proper peaceful - the kind of place where you catch swans gliding about and locals sitting on benches just watching the world move at half speed.

Walkers and photographers will spend a good hour here without thinking about it. The waterfront paths are flat and easy, linking up nicely with the rest of Beverley's town centre, so you're not trudging out into nowhere. History buffs appreciate that this has been here since medieval times, keeping the town alive when trade mattered. Kids will enjoy spotting ducks and the occasional flash of a kingfisher if you're lucky, though don't expect them to linger for hours.

The real draw is combining this with a wander through Beverley itself - the Minster, the Market Square, the Georgian architecture. It's free to walk around, obviously. Visit early morning if you want it quiet, or late afternoon when the light sits nicely on the water. There's no charge for the privilege of looking at it.
