Ben Trush

Ben Trush rises just a few miles north of Perth, a straightforward hill walk that won't demand a full day but rewards you with proper views across Perthshire. The peak itself sits at around 1,200 feet, making it accessible to most walkers without requiring mountaineering kit or endless fitness.

The climb is steep in patches but mercifully short - most people manage the ascent and return in two to three hours. You'll walk through mixed woodland at first, then across open moorland as you approach the summit. On clear days the views stretch across to the Grampians, which is exactly what you're after from this neck of the woods.

This isn't a walk for those after dramatic scenery or technical challenge. It's solid, unpretentious walking country. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the steep bits tricky. The path can get boggy after rain, so proper boots matter.

If you're staying at one of the glamping spots around here - Greenhill Farm Glamping and Alexander House are both within three miles - Ben Trush makes a proper Saturday morning outing. Pair it with an afternoon potter around Perth itself, or tackle it early and have most of the day free.

There's no visitor infrastructure at the summit, so bring water and something to eat. The walk is free, and you can start from the car park near the base. Go when the weather's decent; mist rolling in here kills the views stone dead.
