Beinn Mheadhonach

The walk up Beinn Mheadhonach isn't particularly gruelling, but the views across Argyll make it worth the slog. From Taynuilt, you're looking at a solid afternoon trek - nothing you'll need technical gear for, but proper boots are non-negotiable given how boggy the approach gets. The summit sits at around 900 metres and gives you proper sightlines across Loch Awe to the south and towards Ben Cruachan if the weather's playing ball. Most people allow three to four hours for the round trip, depending on how many photo stops you make. It's the sort of walk that appeals to hill walkers after something straightforward without the seriousness of the bigger Argyll peaks. Families with teenage legs will manage it fine; younger kids might find it a bit much. The real draw is the relative lack of crowds - you won't be queuing for photos at the summit like you might on more famous routes. Go early if you can, particularly in summer when the light holds long - the evening glow across the water makes the effort feel worthwhile.
