Beinn Bheag

The walk up Beinn Bheag from Dunoon is straightforward and rewards you with proper views across the Firth of Clyde. It's not a massive undertaking - you're looking at a couple of hours round trip for most people, which makes it ideal if you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted around Loch Eck or Stratheck and fancy a proper walk without committing to a full day out.

The peak itself sits at 460 metres, which means the climb is steady rather than brutal. On a clear day you get sights of Loch Eck down below and across to the Cowal Peninsula. The path is generally well-trodden, though it can be boggy in places - proper boots are worth it. In wet weather it becomes a bit of a slog, so timing matters.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a destination for families with small kids unless they're the robust sort who don't mind wet legs and a genuinely steep finish. The final push to the summit is where it earns its height. History types won't find much up here - it's nature and views you're after.

There's no visitor centre or facilities at the top, and it's free to access. Allow two to three hours including stops for breath and photos. Early morning visits work best if you want to avoid the midges in summer, and you'll catch better light. It makes a solid half-day activity paired with exploring Dunoon itself or as a break from caravan park life around the lochs.
